Balmoral Cairns
We didn't manage any Friday walks last year but yesterday we made a start to 2025 when 5 of us - plus 2 dogs - took the noon bus out to Crathie to revisit the Balmoral Cairns. We did a slightly shortened version of the full circular, visiting just 5 of the 11 cairns, conscious of our timing to catch the bus back to Ballater for beers.
Here's the photos and the stats from a short but interesting walk:

3rd cairn |
Approaching the largest cairn - a pyramid for Prince Albert |
A cople of views from Prince Albert's cairn:
Nigel took a photo of me whilst I took one of him taking that photo:
Then we headed down the hill again to catch the bus, but, on the way, we came across our 5th cairn:
Finally, the stats:
We had a nice chat and a few beers in the dog friendly Balmoral Bar in Ballater afterwards and then headed back home on the 6 pm bus. A fine day out.
