Hill of Fare

Dave, Colin and I took the chance of a beautiful Friday afternoon to take a walk up Hill of Fare. We had it all planned - we would meet outside Platform 22 and leave one car there and take the other along to the inshot just west of the Raemoir House Hotel entrance.

It'a a fairly comfortable walk up and it's a bit of a plateau at the top, with excellent views in all directions - even the North Sea was clearly visible, as in this photo:

My altimeter at this point said we were at 1,661 feet.

The trail along the top is well-defined LandRover track and there's a bothy/lodge for the hunters:

It was all going well up to this point, but the trail took us more northerly than we would ideally have liked. We could see Torphins below us, but couldn't quite see a clear trail heading in that direction. We got there in the end of course, courtesy partly of Dave's online OS map, but we had to walk the last couple of miles along the road that heads north out of Torphins.
