Belfast
From http://bvhill-walkers.blogspot.com/
Jo and I were in Belfast this weekend for a gig and on Sunday we took a bus along the Antrim Road and walked up from there to Cave Hill Country Park and Belfast Castle, and then beyond up to the top of Ben Madigan, described in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavehill) as "a basaltic hill overlooking the city of Belfast, distinguished by its famous 'Napoleon's Nose',[1] a basaltic outcrop which resembles the profile of the famous emperor Napoleon":
We did a complete circle of the hill - up one side and down the other - and it took us 3 hours for the 9 km walk, with elevation up to 370 metres. Nice views of the city and Belfast Lough - and you can see Scotland in the distance as well. The rock itself is known as McArt's Fort:
Here I am, resting at the top, with Scotland at my back:
There was a Police helicopter hovering at the top for an hour or so - we didn't know if they had come to rescue us or were just on a training exercise:
Thought I would record this in the blog - it might well be my last proper hill walk.
